Flying Edna is a small creative studio centered around (re)imagining the role of story & art in every day living.
It's the artistic home of husband & wife collaborators, Fia and Kai Skye (who is widely known as Brian Andreas).
We write & design, handcraft & distribute all the work in our studio. In a world where so much of what we interact with is created by the hands of those we'll never meet, we enjoy inviting you to know us through our stories & art.
In 2016, we began a little company focused on workshops called A Hundred Ways North - because we know there are many ways to get where you're going and true north isn't always where you think it is. In 2018, inspired by the open skies of Montana, we joyfully restructured that company & began this creative studio, Flying Edna.
Concerned about minimizing our impact on the environment, we choose planet-conscious practices & work with found & sustainable materials. Everything we write, create, & teach is about interconnectedness & cultivating a practice of presence: ways to be more mindful in how we move through every day.

Niya is our wicked smart Belgian puppy. This perfectly imperfect bundle of mayhem & joy keeps us on our toes as she requires us to partner with clarity & intent & a quiet heart... always reminding us what's most important (like high quality treats & cuddling & running full tilt into the wind...)

Yoshi, a spirited Belgian Tervuren, was a constant companion & loving reminder of what it means to be perfectly present.

The three of us journeyed together through 45 states, temporarily making home in the Midwest, Maine, Montana, & most recently, Cape Cod. We miss him every day & are grateful beyond what we can express, for the life we shared & the stories he inspired.

the story of Edna & why she flies...

Early in my teaching career, I received a gift from a young woman: Women of Discovery. As I paged through the book, I learned of
women who changed the landscape of the world, simply by being the all of who they are
(which often meant not being who others thought they should be).
Some of the women in the book I recognized but others were entirely new to me – their lives no less significant simply because history books had overlooked them. What most amazed me most was
a willingness to listen to that voice inside.
This book of extraordinary women has traveled alongside me on countless journeys, a talisman of a sorts, a permission slip, a reminder that we have
one body, one life, & infinite possibilities.
As my own life began to move in a hundred different ways I never anticipated, I found myself listening to an inner voice that helped orient and guide me. Amusing, direct, raw and unfettered, I decided to give this mouthy voice the name of Edna Mercury. (some day over a bottle of Alaskan Amber or a strong cup of coffee, I'll tell you some wild stories about her).
Why she flies….?
Because she can.
